Applications Being Accepted for Pre- and Post-Doctoral Residencies, Student Associate Positions

The Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination is currently accepting applications for pre- and post-doctoral residencies, and for volunteer positions with the Institute's Student Associates Program for the 2014-2015 academic year. LISD seeks residency applications from pre- and post-doctoral applicants who have independent funding and whose research is applicable to any of the Institute's current projects. The Institute is also seeking enrolled Princeton University graduate and undergraduate students to participate as part of an active and committed team of students who support LISD's projects and initiatives. Pre- and Post-Doctoral Residents

Pre- and post-doctoral residents contribute to the academic life of the Institute by conducting independent research and writing that contributes to LISD's current projects. Resident pre- and post-doctoral scholars are expected to remain in residence at the Institute during the entire term of their appointment, work closely with project directors, and to assist with and participate in applicable LISD workshops, seminars, and other project activities. 

Student Associates

LISD student associates assist the Institute on a volunteer basis in three capacities: reporting on LISD events as correspondents, assisting with building LISD's digital presence as social media associates, and contributing to the development of a mapping database as DIRMAIS associates. Student associates who have demonstrated a commitment to the Institute in their Student Associate capacities may be asked to assist with the preparation and administration of international conferences and workshops which LISD convenes on a regular basis.

Correspondents attend LISD lectures and panels and write article-style summaries of the events for the Institute's website. Distinguished correspondents will be given priority for rapporteur positions at LISD workshops and conferences. Candidates for correspondent positions are required to submit a short writing sample with their applications.

DIRMAIS associates contribute to the Institute's Digital Interactive Regional Mapping and Information System (DIRMAIS). DIRMAIS is a proprietary and innovative touch-screen mapping project at LISD that is currently in the development phase. It will serve as an important educational resource for the Princeton community, and emphasize the importance of understanding geography in international relations. DIRMAIS associates will contribute to the project as it moves from development to implementation, but do not need to have technical backgrounds in engineering or computer science. 

Social media associates contribute to LISD's digital presence. Associates will provide content related to an assigned region and/or theme to be posted to LISD's Facebook and Twitter accounts. Associates are expected to contribute 4-6 relevant articles with a short summary of the article’s analysis on a weekly basis. These articles should be insightful and offer analysis (no news reports), published by a credible source (no personal blogs; must have gone through some sort of vetting process), written in either an editorial or an academic style, and linked directly (for academic journals, the link can point to the journal’s landing page for the article).
