LISD hosted a private conversation with G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant for our International Policy Associates (IPAs) and friends of the Institute on February 28, during his visit to Princeton. Kant, an Indian senior policymaker and the former Chief Executive of the Indian Government’s National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) has been a driving force behind numerous reforms and initiatives that have revolutionized India's landscape.

Amitabh Kant shared insights on domestic and international issues particularly in his capacity as G20 Sherpa. The conversation focused on India’s plan for economic growth, the forming of new cities, and the government's negotiations with farmers in the lead up to India’s elections. On the international front, Kant discussed the importance of supporting emerging markets in the Global South, using strong technological infrastructures to implement public policy and creating market measures for high-emission companies to work towards climate change goals.

Nolan Musslewhite ‘25, an International Policy Associate, said the discussion “offered a fascinating perspective on multilateralism and consensus-building in an increasingly complex international environment, reflecting India’s emergent status as a champion of the Global South.”
