LISD Non-Resident Fellow Jonathan Fredman was recently presented with the Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal at a ceremony at CIA Headquarters in Virginia.  In addition to Agency officers and former colleagues, representatives from the Departments of State, Justice, and Defense attended the event, along with several of Professor Fredman's former students and a number of additional Princeton alumni and friends.

The citation that accompanied the award read:

"Jonathan M. Fredman is hereby awarded the Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal in recognition of his exceptional achievements and strategic impact on the mission of the Central Intelligence Agency. For more than 35 years, Mr. Fredman served in a variety of positions of increasing responsibility within the CIA and the Intelligence Community, including as Chief of the DCI Counterterrorist Center Legal Staff during and after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001; Special Counsel for Counterterrorism; and Assistant Deputy Director of National Intelligence for Special Programs. He made significant personal and professional sacrifices to support the Agency's mission during a time of war. Based on his extensive experience, Mr. Fredman also mentored generations of Agency attorneys on the practice of law. His expertise and commitment to the mission and people of CIA and OGC will be deeply missed."
