The Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination (LISD) at Princeton University is delighted to congratulate Noah James ’25 on being awarded the Daniel M. Sachs Class of 1960 Graduating Scholarship, one of Princeton University’s most prestigious awards. The scholarship will support his graduate studies at the University of Oxford, where he plans to pursue two master’s degrees, one in criminology and criminal justice and one in global governance and diplomacy.

A concentrator in the School of Public and International Affairs with a minor in Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies and history and the practice of diplomacy, Noah has demonstrated a deep commitment to international law, human rights, and conflict resolution.

Noah’s engagement with LISD began in the summer of 2023, when he undertook a LISD-facilitated internship with the U.N. Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict (CAAC). Since then, he has been mentored by LISD’s Barbara Buckinx, SPIA research scholar and lecturer, and continues to advance critical research in the field. He is also the author of a forthcoming paper with the CAAC Office examining how juvenile justice frameworks can foster the reintegration of children formerly associated with armed forces or armed groups.

According to Buckinx, “Noah is an exceptionally talented and motivated individual with a strong background in human rights and international law research and one of the best students I have ever mentored or taught at Princeton.”

Sophie Meunier, LISD Acting Director for 2023-2024, and a senior research scholar and lecturer at SPIA, is advising Noah's senior thesis, which examines the ongoing Lundin Oil trial in Sweden concerning alleged war crimes in Sudan.

LISD congratulates Noah on this exceptional achievement and looks forward to seeing the impact of his work in international policy and human rights.
