Abstract:

During a February 2013 visit to the United States, Fawzia Koofi, Member of Parliament in Afghanistan and the Vice President of the National Assembly, was hosted at Princeton University by the Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination. An outspoken supporter of access to education and women’s rights in Afghanistan, Koofi has announced her intention to run as a presidential candidate in the 2014 Afghanistan elections. Koofi sat down with Ankit Panda, LISD Research Specialist, to discuss a wide range of issues impacting Afghanistan, including economic development, governmental accountability, negotiations with the Taliban, the drawdown of US and international military forces, and the role of women in the future of the country.
