Event Description

In 2024, approximately 75 million individuals were internally displaced. Most were forced to leave their homes due to conflict, others because of disasters. Since they did not move across state borders, they do not benefit from the protection regime that is available for refugees. Their numbers are projected to grow, especially as a result of climate change. Dr. Gabriel Cardona-Fox ’94 will outline some of the main ethical and policy challenges related to forced migration and IDPs.

Dr. Gabriel Cardona-Fox ‘94 is an Associate Fellow at the Bologna Institute for Policy Research at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advance International Studies (SAIS) and a Senior Research Associate with the Internal Displacement Research Program at the University of London. His work and advocacy focus on issues of internal forced displacement. He previously served as a Senior Monitoring Expert with the Norwegian Refugee Council’s Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre in Geneva. His research on internal displacement and global governance has garnered awards from the Academic Council of the United Nations and the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management.
