Event Description

LISD convened the colloquium, "Iran's Security Challenges and the Region," March 17-20, 2005 in Triesenberg, Liechtenstein. The colloquium brought together senior policy makers and academics from Iran, Europe, the United States, and Iran’s neighbors, as well as representatives of government and international organizations. The conference focused on three issues: Iran’s current security challenges; the debate about non-proliferation; and Iran’s emerging relationships with its neighbors, the US, EU, Russia, and China. By exploring such issues as the path forward on nuclear non-proliferation, Iran’s role in the recent democratic transitions in both Afghanistan and Iran, and the emerging regional tensions over water, organized crime, and the drug trade. In order to enable Iranian leaders to participate in the meeting, participants video conferenced with participants in Tehran.
