During a recent trip to Europe, 16 LISD Student Associates visited Vienna to learn about the city as a diplomatic crossroads. Through visits to the OSCE and UN, grassroots civil-society organizations, major NGOs, and Austrian federal offices including the Austrian Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs, and the Office of the Austrian Federal President, the students could experience diplomacy in its most formal and public conditions, as well as in Track II and private contexts.

Highlights included sitting in on a session of the OSCE Permanent Council, and engaging with senior decision makers like the Permanent Undersecretary and Secretary General Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal of the Austrian Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs.
