Bio/Description Born in London and raised in Toronto, Leighton Symons is a senior in the History Department. Leighton’s academic interests are focused on the history of modern Britain, British colonialism in East Africa and Canada’s role on the world stage. This summer, she worked as the Joseph S. Nye, Jr. Research Intern for the Transatlantic Security Program at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) in Washington, DC., focusing on NATO’s 75th Anniversary Summit, Russian aggression in Moldova and Georgia, and Canadian defense. On campus, Leighton is also Editor-in-Chief of the Historical Review, a Research Assistant at the Niehaus Center for Globalization and Governance and a Project Manager at Princeton Nonprofit Consulting Club. She is one of LISD’s Africa Program Fellows and has previously worked in Kenya’s Uasin Gishu and Lamu counties for nonprofit organizations focused on expanding educational access, both to grade school resources and postsecondary institutions in the United States.
