Madison Qualls is a junior from Baltimore, concentrating in Near Eastern Studies and pursuing a minor in Dance and a certificate in the History and Practice of Diplomacy. Her interests lie in U.S. foreign policy and, specifically, how the United States can use a multilateral approach to address and resolve conflicts in the Middle East/North Africa region. She is also interested in how international organizations, such as Human Rights Watch, can best use their platforms and resources to raise awareness for the most pressing human rights issues in the region, especially regarding women and LGBTQ-identifying individuals. On campus, Maddie is the vice president of BodyHype Dance Company and political action chair for the Generational African American Students Association. This summer, she attended the Qasid Arabic Institute in Amman, Jordan, where she studied Modern Standard Arabic with their intensive core program.
