The Digital Interactive Regional Mapping and Information System (DIRMAIS) is a framework that overlays historical and modern maps, satellite imagery, and nonvisual data, providing reliable visual information on regions in distress and allowing the simultaneous comparison of data from different times and sources. DIRMAIS includes geological, historical, political, infrastructure, and strategic maps, as well as satellite imagery.
DIRMAIS is based on the idea that while that there generally exists an abundance of relevant information, access to it in a usable form, appealing to young users and offering top information, is often limited by location or technology. DIRMAIS therefore was created as an online system that aggregates relevant data from a vast variety of sources, delivers it in both visual and digital form, and allows access based only on an internet connection and a basic computer system. It aims to enhance the ability of researchers, policy-makers, and on-the-ground professionals to utilize maps in their work and facilitate the ability to analyze, present, and interact with relevant visual and statistical data.
